Results of Triaxial Compression Tests on LGOM Sandstone and Dolomite in the Context of the Elastic-plastic Constitutive Model Selection

Author: J. Cieślik

The conditions and interpretation of the results of laboratory tests on samples of a sandstone and
a dolomite from the “Rudna”copper ore mine are presented in this paper. The tests were carried out under
the conditions of axisymmetric state of stress induced in rock samples using a triaxial testing apparatus.
The test results made it possible to select an elastic-plastic constitutive model for the investigated rocks,
and then to verify the correctness of the adopted assumptions. To begin with, the behaviour of the sandstone
and dolomite tested as well as the conditions in which they demonstrated the features of brittle and
ductile states are presented. The experimental test results were the basis for adopting the assumptions
for the physical model. A signifi cant part of the paper has been devoted to a description of the results of
the laboratory studies in the context of determining the parameters of the previously established model.
Based on the obtained results, elastic and plastic parameters for the two models, with different – a linear
and a non-linear – yield criteria and different fl ow laws were determined. The effects, which are the result
of adopting two different types of the elastic-plastic constitutive model, are also presented in the paper.
