Distributions of Convergence in a Modular Structure Projecting a Multi-Level Salt Mine

Author: G. Kortas

This paper presents distribution of convergence in two dimension structures made of viscous-elastic
body. Geometry I structures was defi ned. in 2.1. Chapter. FEM numeric method was used to describe
displacements of room contours and convergences in main horizontal and vertical directions also areal
convergences. Increases of convergences in 1st and 20th year after excavation were computed. It was found
that convergence rate grows nearly inversely proportional to Young modulus E in the fi rst year and nearly
directly proportionally to a creep coeffi cient B = Aexp(-Q/RT) in 20th year. In a single-series vertical structure
horizontal convergences are greater then vertical ones. This relationship is similar for structures of
vertical dimension greater then horizontal. In a single-series and multi-series horizontal structure vertical
convergences are greater. Some representative distributions of horizontal, vertical and areal convergences
are presented on fi gures 2-8. Results of FEM computer simulation can be useful for results of mine surveys
interpretation in underground salt mines and for analysis of subsidence of ground surface.
