Multi-point measurements of velocity fields in gas flows

Authors: P. Ligęza, E. Poleszczyk

An original, novel multi-point hot-wire system for velocity field measurements in the mine conditions has been recently developed at the Laboratory of Flow Metrology. This study outlines the conceptual design of the measuring probe and the model testing procedure. The structure of the device and the governing mathematical model are discussed in more detail. The modelling strategy is presented and model test data are given. Potential applications of the new probe are explored. Application of an advanced measuring circuit and anovel method of temperature compensation allow the use of platinum thin films deposited on ceramic in the sensor construction. This embodiment ensures the metrological properties similar to those of hot-wire sensors and makes probe fabrication easier and faster. The testing procedure and results of the test programme aimed to identify the metrological properties of the measuring probes are summarised, further applications of the new probes are explored.
