Some remarks about capabilities of computer modelling of interaction between a structure and deforming subsoil

Authors: L. Florkowska, J. Walaszczyk

A soil surface as well as any structure located on it is often influenced by mining processes conducted in the rock mass. Therefore predicting of soil surface deformation caused by underground mining works seems to be a serious problem and new and improved methods are still requested in this field of knowledge. Some studies on this topic were also undertaken in the Strata Mechanics Research Institute with taking into account the newest computation techniques and computer technologies. In the paper a brief review of experiences gathered during some years of studies on computer modelling of interaction between a structure and deforming subsoil was presented. The following problems turned out necessary to resolve in modelling process: -a selection of a material low appropriate for soil; -an adequate formulation of the task geometry; -an adequate method for trough shaping simulation in time and space. As a result of researches mentioned above a modern method of modelling of interaction between a structure and deforming subsoil was proposed and presented in the paper. The method uses a set of FEM computer programs named ABAQUS. It gives a much better fit of computer model to a certain case than traditional methods used for predicting the mining damages. It is also convenient for a user and a visualisation method established for calculation results makes their analysis very easy. The paper contains some exemplary calculation results, illustrating effects of the proposed method.
