The perspectives of application of the simultaneous suspension thickening and clarifying by means of lamella sedimentation device Authors: W. P. Kowalski, K. Kołodziejczyk, T. Zacharz
In the article the authors present the results from the research on the simultaneous highly-efficient clarifying and thickening of suspension after flotation from hydro-sludge circulation in KGHM "Polska Miedź" S.A. The method of simultaneous clarifying and thickening is based on the use of multiflux sedimentation: counter-current in clarifying zone and co-current in the thickening zone. The authors present in detail the stand construction, which is based on the above-mentioned conception. The research results confirmed that simultaneous process in one device is possible to be reached and the results are not worse than in two processes, which are realised in two separate devices. The research showed also that the multiflux sedimentation could be used to realise both processes simultaneously with very good effects in clarifying and thickening. The research showed that the co-current multiflux sedimentation could be used to intensify thickening of suspension with a very smali graining with a simultaneous high efficiency of suspension clarifying. In the research the authors reached over ten-times thickening level in the compression zone which was simultaneously, a few times higher than the usual thickening level reached without the use of co-current sedimentation. The above research was confirmed by: the theoretical calculations, computer si-mulations and pilot scalę tests. Therefore, it can be said that morę demanding requirements introduced by the environmental protection regulations need efficient systems and the above systems seems to be advi-sable and possible to exploitation in the above mentioned processes. In the closed water circles, the number of needed devices could be limited, and conseąuently, the technological process would be less energy consuming. Application of one device giving suspension purifying results at the same or higher level as it is in two separate devices would let decrease the necessary area needed to build a few devices, especially huge Dorr settling tanks. Additionally the unit cost of the described device would be lower than cost of traditional thickeners. |
