The side-crumble angle [psi] of coal and the energy consumption of the mining process as a function of the vertical component [sigms] sub z of exploitation pressure

Author: W. Biały

Based upon test-bed laboratory measurements representing the digging process of the longwall shearer, the static plane force P sub śr necessary in the solid rock digging process was estimated.

The expcriments were perfomed using all the possible values of exploitation pressure, represented by the vertical component [sigma] sub z of the stress state (normal to the seam), which can oceur within the working area of the cutting device.

The measurements were performed for different kinds of coal at both turns and cutting direetions and considenng the influence of the situation in which decreased coal coherence planes occurred.

The experiments performed allowed the variations of the mineability index A sub [psi] values, the energy consumption of the digging process SE and side-crumble angle [psi] as a funetion of vertical component [sigma] sub z of the exploitation pressure to be determined.

These experiments were performed for coal specimens at loads ranging between zero up to loading causing resistance destmction on the primary structure and the destroyed structure (ZS).
