Isosteric heats of methane sorption on hard coals of different ranks at elevated pressures

Authors: A. Nodzeński, S. Hołda

The study of sorption and desorption methane on three sampIes of hard coal is presented in this paper.

The sorption isotherms were measured by means of the volumetric method at temperatures of 296-333 Kin relation to 13 MPa pressure.

The porosities of the sampIes were determined by measuring of their apparent (the mercury method) and true densities (the helium method).

The experimental data obtained were described using the thermal sorption equation in virial form. The isosteric heats of sorption as a function of coverage were calculated.

The obtained results indicate the physical nature of interaction between methane molecules and hard coal.

The values of isosteric heats o fsorption are dependent on the o fmaceral composition of coal.
