Permeability changes in flows of salts solutions in sedimentary rocks

Author: R. Skawiński

Experimental investigations of the change of permeability in the flows of water and water solutions of some inorganic salts, are presented.

The changes of permeability in such flows are caused by some physico-chemical phenomena of the interaction of water and dissolved salts with some rock components, mainly clay minerals.

This interaction may cause internal swelling or internal shrinkage of the rock, consisting in the change of pores dimensions and a change in the permeability.

The results of experiments with the flows in some sandstones and coal are discussed.

The observed phenomena can find application in many technical undertakings in mining and environment protection.
