Proper positioning of tangential-rotary knives on robbing cutters

Author: K. Krauze

An analysis of available information and hobbing cutter systems equipped with tangential-rotary knives has indicated that an analytical determination of knife position in relation to the machined surface is required.

To enable the cutting angle value to be determined analytically a set of equations and relationships has been developed.

These equations allow proper positioning of tangential-rotary knives to minimize the load value and variability, while keeping appropriate cutting angles.
